‘CONTINUING
MOMENTUM’
CHILDREN’S
CREATIVE DANCE WORKSHOPS
A ‘Continuing
Momentum’ project could be created in any way the host community/presenter and
the local dance artist believes would best benefit them. Local dancer Clare
Doolan and performer Rebecca Hillier were the two local artists given the
opportunity to develop and present the project. They decided to target the 5-12
year age group and offer dance workshops throughout the July school holidays. The
emphasis was to be on the development of the workshops and to give local
children an opportunity to be involved in dance. Taster dance workshops were
also conducted at Hopetoun, Ravensthorpe and Jerdacuttup Primary Schools in the
final weeks of term 2. So, every day of
the school holidays Clare and Beck have been running Children’s Creative Dance
Workshops at the Hopetoun Town Hall. Local Ravensthorpe, Jerdacuttup and
Hopetoun children aged between five and twelve years have participated in the
workshops which have involved movement activities, games and learning a
contemporary style dance routine. There was also a showing, where parents had
an opportunity to watch their children perform the dance routine and
participate in a movement activity with their child.
Hopetoun based photographer Dene Bingham
attended one of the workshops and took some fantastic images of the children in
action, as can be seen in the photo storyboard.
Clare and Beck would like to take this
opportunity to thank all the parents and families of the participants for their
support of these workshops. The children all worked really hard and it was an
amazing experience for both the facilitators and the kids involved.
